Ripping DVD with Vegas/(other program?) and re-authoring or duplicating DVD
Posted by Angelo Mike on January 2, 2012 at 3:49 pmI created a DVD a few months ago with a project that was on one of my hard drives that crashed. I still have the DVD, and the client needs more copies of it. I tried ripping the DVD with Vegas and authoring a new one, but I can’t seem to get the DVD letterboxed, and the picture becomes blown up.
Is there a way-without spending money-to create an exact copy of the DVD using Vegas? Or another program?

January 2, 2012 at 4:03 pmRoxio or Nero will do it. Just put it in and tell the program to copy disk and make as many copies as you want.

January 2, 2012 at 4:13 pmThanks. Are either of these available in free versions that will do this? I’ve been finding information about these programs (and others) in internet searches but can’t seem to find definitely whether the free versions will let me duplicate DVDs. Specifically, I’ll have to rip the DVDs and burn them since I only have one DVD burner on my computer.

January 2, 2012 at 4:31 pmCopy the Video_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on the original DVD to a new folder location and use whatever burning software you have to duplicate them using the Data Disc option.

January 2, 2012 at 4:46 pmI’ve been using a program called Imgburn to make exact copies of the DVDs I create for my clients. What it does is simple: It creates a singular .iso file of the entire DVD (menus, extras, and all) and when my clients wish to order more copies I use Imgburn again to make as many copies as they require all without me having to have a “Master DVD” laying around. Not only does the program initially make the .iso files it then allows me to make as many copies when and as needed all for FREE! I too have only one DVD burner but Imgburn allows me to not only input the number of copies I need to burn it also ejects the finished discs and prompts me to insert the next blank DVD. When all is said and done it’s a no-brainer. Just Google “Imgburn” (without the quotes) and their site should be listed first.
Peace,

January 2, 2012 at 5:05 pmThanks, guys. I tried to make a data disc and was able to rip the video and audio files from the DVD, but couldn’t figure out how to make a data disc in DVD Architect. I’m going to try Imgburn.

January 2, 2012 at 5:10 pmMy workplace gives me Roxio Creator.
What 3rd party CD/DVD burning software do you have, if any? -

January 2, 2012 at 5:16 pmI also have ConvertXtoDVD 4, which I haven’t used since I got DVD Architect. It was convenient for its basically one click DVD authoring. Also, I didn’t realize this, but I just saw that I have Roxio on my computer. I’m not sure how functional it is since it must be a free version, and I vaguely remember downloading it at some point.
Anyways, I’m already well on my way with Imgburn, but at least now I know I have Roxio.

January 2, 2012 at 6:38 pmNo need to rip if you want an exact copy. Just copy disk, it will save a copy to a temporary folder and when you put a blank disk in, it will burn the copy/copies.
