I have to produce a video presentation which will be shown on a
1 year old windows laptop , on 19 inch LCD Monitor with 1280 x 1024 Resolution. In Which resolution should I produce the Video?

Normally I take 720x 576 but I wonder if the quality is too bad when the
video gets scaled to full resolution of the monitor.

The video can be played from the harddisk of the laptop .. therefore file size is no problem, I guess.

How do you handle that normally?

    thanks mike

That resolution should work fine, although some media players scale up better than others; just make sure you encode progressive.

Try making a 1280×1024 comp for a test. Render it with four output modules, all set to Quicktime Photo-JPEG 89-94%: 1280×1024, 1024×768, 800×600, 640×480. When done, pick the movie that looks the best and plays the best from the hard drive.

    – Make sure that Quicktime Player is set to play “High Quality Enabled”.
    – Make sure the laptop has Quicktime installed.
    – Test the video playback on the real laptop.
    – Make a set of WMVs (you need AE Windows, if I recall) if you don’t know if the laptop will have Quicktime.
    – To be absolutely sure, you must control the laptop. Install what you need and test on it, as I wrote above.
