Hello, I am quite new to modelling and rigging in Cinema 4D and am having a few issues.

I didn’t follow a tutorial or guide in order to model the character I sort of just picked that up and it is coming out pretty good I guess, but when it came to the boning / rigging of the character I got stuck and had to look up for some help, but I didn’t find many useful resources so again I sort of went with it.

The problem I am having is with the weighting, when I move one of the goals for a leg, the leg moves fine but then the other leg moves a bit as well plus the knee isn’t working as expected.

I understand this is some sort of issue with Auto weighting but I don’t know how to fix it.

If anyone can provide some help I will be very greatful, thankyou.

Here is a screenshot of the window Screenshot #1

Note: I haven’t finished modelling the character (He has no head just a neck at the moment, and the arms / elbows aren’t done) I might need help with some muscle structure in the face, etc… later on so I might come back to this topic after the boning issue has been resolved.

    Howdy,

Well, it sounds like you have weights from one leg crossing over to the other leg, in other words your left leg has some weight on it from your right leg joints.

But, before I go any further, I have to say that if you haven’t finished your model, you really shouldn’t be rigging it yet. Be patient, and finish the model first before you start trying to rig it.

Now, that said, you need to be concerned with the model’s topology, because model topology affects the mesh’s deformation. If you’re model has good topology it makes the weighting much easier.

If you haven’t seen my rigging tutorials, have a look at them here:
    https://www.c4dportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2501

in the first chapter of the character rigging section called “Setting up the Skeleton” I talk about the importance of model topology and deformation.

The tutorials are using my character rigging plugins, but the concepts are fairly basic, and can be applied to any toolset and any application.

The tutorials are a work in progress, so there are more tutorials to come.

    Adios,
