    Someone made this in Photoshop as a reference for me:

    and I need to recreate it in After Effects. Following the normal method (making duplicates of the guy, split it into R, G and B layers, offset & set the blend mode to “Screen” or “Add”) makes him disappear in front of the white background. Precomposing leads to something like this:

    Does anyone have an idea how I could achieve the effect showed in the reference?

    Try the 3D Glasses effect. Use the same layer for both the left and right views. Use the “Balanced Color Red Blue” 3D View, increase the Scene Convergence, and adjust the Balance to taste.
