  • Revised hack for the Photo-JPEG RT in 5.1.1?

Posted by John Davidson on August 28, 2006 at 8:06 pm

    Hey guys,

After getting the 5.1.1 crossgrade, I noticed that the folder heiarchy is slightyly different from 5.04. The enabler folder is in a different place, so my question is, has anyone tried the hack that allows photoJPEG at any resolution with RT in the universal binary 5.1.1 version of FCP?

I’m having to deal with about 10 hrs of footage imported from DVDs and see very little point in converting DVD ripped footage to 8bit when Photo-JPEG gets me to the same place with far less space requirements. Photo-JPEG would be an acceptable format, no?

    Thanks!

ps. These aren’t ripped movies, it’s old interviews that were burned to DVD’s. Can we start a movement encouraging folks not to think of Playable DVD’s as an acceptable backup format?

    Yes. It still works.

The new location in the FCP app bundle is Resources/Non-Localized Settings/FXScripts/Enablers.

Personally, I would not use Photo JPEG for this project, as your footage has already been pretty heavily compressed for DVD…I would stick with 8 Bit Uncompressed or DV50.

You’re right. I think I’ll stick with 8bit – but it’s great to know that the codec trick works.

    Thanks!
