  • Revert Drivers and Firmware?

    I currently have this system:

    Dual G4 1.42 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    OS 10.3.9
    FCP 4.5
    QT Pro 6.5.2
    QT Non-Pro 7.0.1
AJA Io with Driver v2.0b3 and Firmware Update v22-27
RS-422 deck control via Stealth Serial Port
    Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 via SDI to/from DVW-A500

I’ve noticed some issues with this newly-upgraded system:

    1. more crashes
    2. when I capture audio via SDI embedded, the left and right channels are reversed
    3. when I made an assemble edit, have way through a 5 minute piece, my video was laying down 1 frame early from where it was supposed to be.

This all makes me want my old system back. Can I install the versions of IO software I used to have (driver v1.3.1 and firmware version 21-26) right on top of the current driver and firmware? Is there an uninstall procedure I should implement first?

Also, since I’ll be reverting to an earlier firmware version, the control panel I have installed will not work anymore. How do I uninstall that?

I’m having some of the same issues. I think it may be related to OS 10.3.9. Let me check my system specs tomorrow and see how they’re different from yours. I think I’m still on Quicktime 6.5.2 and am not using the beta IO drivers, so those may not be the issue. I’ll post back-

I’m no longer having the 1 frame early issue on Edit to Tape. Not sure what fixed it but try reinstalling the IO drivers. Below I’ve added my specs next to yours in parentheses.

good luck-I’ll keeping posting back if I keep having crashes.

    Dual G4 1.42 GHz (dual G5 2.0 GHz)
2 GB RAM (4 GB RAM)
    OS 10.3.9 (SAME)
    FCP 4.5 (SAME)
    QT Pro 6.5.2 (SAME)
    QT Non-Pro 7.0.1 (not installed)
AJA Io with Driver v2.0b3 and Firmware Update v22-27 (driver 1.3.1 and firmware 21-25)
RS-422 deck control via Stealth Serial Port (I use IO’s RS-422 control)
    Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 via SDI to/from DVW-A500 (SAME except 10 bit)

    Joe,

thanks for the details on your system. I called AJA and they basically said to re-install older drivers, just do a find for “ProIO” and delete what you find, then install the driver you want.

I haven’t been able to solve my problem. On ETT, it’s dead-on frame-accurate except for this one sequence. I’ve tried to output this sequence on another FCP system with the same specs I had before my update, and it outputs perfectly. Very strange. Anyway, if I can’t solve it soon, I’ll just put everything back to the way it was, and hope that fixes it.

    Any other suggestions?

I think I’m back up and running now. Installed new driver (v2.0) today and also new firmware. Then I uninstalled QT 7.0.1 and kept QT Pro 6.5.2. I tested a couple of times, reverting to earlier drivers (at least attempted to) and nothing seemed to fix the problem: ETT would start off frame-accurate and then at 01:03:54:29, it would start laying down video one frame early.

Finally, I re-installed QT 6.5.2 over QT 7.0.1 (using Apple’s re-installer) and that seemed to do the trick. Now it’s all frame accurate as far as I can tell.

I’ll be cutting tomorrow so it remains to be seen if the crashes still persist. But, I have a little more confidence in the system now, and especially the new AJA drivers and firmware because they’ve been beta versions for so long.
