    here’s a real doozy!

a friend just emailed me and asked if there’s any way to reverse some footage she shot BY MISTAKE in night vision…

i told her that’s why you pay the professionals…

does anyone have any comment or a fix for her?

Not much can be done. With NIGHT SHOT there is very little color…darn near NOTHING to work with.

You might be able to go to black and white, but I am betting it still looks funny.

There is really noting that could be done to fix the footage that would not be more pain staking, time intensive and most more expensive then reshooting.

Can’t get it back to normal, best option is to make it an ‘artistic decision’ – make it black and white, or shift the colour to something that’s not the normal green and add some other visual effects. Putting a reddish colour over a greenish night shot clip will neutralise the effect somewhat, but it won’t get right.

    Hi
Shoot some B-roll BCUs of fancy candles burning, capture into the project and cut a few into the timeline, then white balance the night-shoot footage to the same candle-flame glow. Colour correct the mid-tones of the night-shoot shots to be the same gloden glow…

I cut an hours worth of wedding speeches shot by one of the guests in a restaurant like this – and the client was very happy. 😉

How completely brilliant. 😀 I’m amazed.
