This is why I stopped “upgrading”. I can’t afford to beta test for Avid with a client sitting over my shoulder.
While I am still on MC v2.7.1 today, it’s ironic that I was on MC v4 15 years ago.

Actually, 2.8, 3.0.5, 3.1.1 and 3.1.3 were pretty stable releases. 3.5 had some more issues, apparently.

Yeah, I just don’t find pretty stable to be stable enough for a daily workflow with in-house clients.
I was spoiled back when an Avid was an Avid. Now that it’s a software trying to catch up to FCP, it kind of makes me want FCP. That’s what I’ll upgrade to when I do upgrade.

Let me rephrase, 3.0.5 and later were all exteremely stable. No problem working with deadlines or demanding clients. 3.5.4 caused some troubles. The upgrade to v3 was absolutely worthwhile, and good value for money.

I’ll have to repectfully disagree. Everytime I freelance in other houses with current versions, there are fun little surprises and restrictions awaiting. Well, apart from a rather serious metadata bug that is under investigation now, (and yes, bugs do sometimes pop up) the 3.5.4-with-patch now runs as stable as a Meridien or ABVB Avid used to do. Back when an Avid was an Avid, as you described it. When we got to 2.7, I left my Meridien for DNA, and felt OK about it. When we got to v3, I felt we finally made some good progress. V3 has a better response than any other Avid I ever worked on, for instance. And very, very reliable.
I’ll admit that I’m generally a slow upgrader, but the upgrades I got were all value for money. Just my meandering experience.

We’ll see how better things get with em. I lost hope for high hopes at this point, as you can tell. I see most of the industry doing the same as more and more FCP suites (and jobs) pop up and less and Avid suites (and jobs) exist. Part of it is their lack of effort but most of this is due to their “creative” marketing. Adrenaline alone bagged em more than they know or admit and we’ve seen very little stride to recover. Based on the burn I’ve felt, it’d be very hard for me to ever buy another Avid product. I fully plan on upgrading to a $15k FCP suite as soon as my $45k Avid suite croaks.
