Reverse engineer a DVD?
A client has a DVD. They only need to change 1 word of the audio, but they don’t have any of the files used to make the DVD. Is there a way to pull the audio file, make a change, and then replace it back? I don’t want to reauthor, just replace assets. Ideas?

Nope! You have to rip it, redo the edit and re-author the dvd.

Yeah, I don’t think so.
All the files inside a DVD are interrelated, and inside the VOB beside the Video and Audio information I guess that there is a bunch of metadata. Even if you can make new VOBs with new audio (thats possible) I guess you would screw the metadata that allows the navigation.

It can be done with tools like After Edit and a number of PC DVD editing tools but unless you know the ins and outs of the DVD spec you’re going to screw things up.
I did something like this long ago for a distributor who wanted to change out an old logo on 100s of the titles they bought from another distributor
Best to demux the entire discs and redo it from scratch

The Mayans screwed everyone, didn’t they? They need to replace 2011 with 2013. Just a corporate thing.
