Revealing curtains
Posted by Xtothed on September 13, 2006 at 2:35 pmHi Guys
this should be pretty simple to do…but am struggling. I am after some theatre curtains opening.
I have created them already with fractal noise – nice red ones – but want the middle to sashay outwards, from the middle, to reveal stuff in behind it, like a theatre curtin would do.
How is the best way to pinch the curtain from the middle, and also move them to either side? Help anyone
Xav

September 13, 2006 at 3:55 pmHere’s a couple of ways that are quick and not bad looking, methinks.
CC Split (in Distort), set the Point A and B vertically and reveal away, this gives a gap like a vertical eye opening, but you can drop the lower Point B way down and get more of a conventional curtain opening.
I think the nicest looking is to dup the curtain layer, mask off a left and a right side, then apply CC Bender to one side (also in Distort), Style Boxer (although you might like others better), reverse the positions of the Top and Base parameters, now negative Amounts pull the curtain on the right open, like someone peeking from behind.
Break a leg.

September 13, 2006 at 9:19 pmGlad it worked for you. Yeah, Bender can do some amazing things to stills or videos, Marylin can really make the hips in a photo do the samba especially when tied to audio keyframes. Oops, I guess I watched too much Dancing with the Stars last night.

September 14, 2006 at 6:34 amWell, hope you’re not disappointed, but here’s the Curtain being open (5 MB):
https://media.putfile.com/Bender-Curtain
The last 1 sec is a Screen Capture of the AE screen with everthing showing for the curtain. The revealed Bigfoot doing a booty-shake is from another project and he gets the shake from Bender (but with Style: Marlyn), the amount for Bigfoot’s Bender was tied to Audiokeyframes (of the music)via an expression (Alt Click the Amount Stopwatch and pickwhip to one of the Audio keyframes sliders)If you can’t read it, for the Curtain, it’s Bender>Style: Boxer.
To get audio keyframes in AE, select the sound layer, Animation>Keyframe Assistant>Convert Audio to keyframes. Trapcode Soundkeys makes a similar effect but it’s much more sophisticated.
This putfile will be in your Temporary Internet Files, click Size to sort by size, it’s an MOV (4,871 KB) near the top, then you can copy/paste it somewhere to play on your computer, you might need to View>Double Size in Quicktime to see the settings for Bender and Fractal Noise.

September 14, 2006 at 7:12 amIn case that’s too hard to decipher, here’s an aep for the curtain:
https://www.nitroshare.com/v/9113749/1158217367829.aep.html
I apologize for a lack of description, and the file not being named well, first time I’ve used that service.
And a tut from Adobe for audiokeyframes to drive an effect is here:
https://studio.adobe.com/us/tips/tip.jsp?p=1&id=396&xml=aft6audio
Like I said I used Audiokeyframes to drive the Amount of Bender to do the Bigfoot Booty-shake.
