    Hi,

I am working with some images (graphs) and I am trying to isolate a specific color and slowly reveal it. The image has three different lines (3 different colors) that are charted on the graph. How do I hide one of those specific colors and then slowly unmask it across the screen from left to right? Thanks in advance.

Deconstruct your graph into its different elements (the graph & the 3 separate color lines = 4 elements), and layer these in your timeline.

You can keyframe with your crop tool to slowly reveal the different layers.

You could also use a long slow edge-wipe transition.

Thanks, that is helpful. What if my graph is a PNG sent by client? Is there a way to deconstruct an image like this? I don’t know if they can provide me with separate layers for each element.

Is there any way to key and reveal specific colors within a single layer?

You may have to re-create the graph in Photoshop (unless your client has a psd version with separated layers).

You can’t really isolate the colors – if you key the colors they won’t simply disappear in your image, they will actually cut a hole in your image – revealing black. So you really need to recreate your graph I think.

Of course, there may be other workarounds. If its a bar graph, you could also reveal the bars by using a moving color solid layer. It might be easier (instead of recreating the graph w/ separate layers) to create a sort of mask that has the same color tone as your graph background layer. So long as you don’t have a gradient, texture, or a multicolor background this should work. Just set up keyframes to reveal through cropping or position changes.

    Hope that makes sense.
