This is, of course, a workflow related question. I know there are several ways one can find out the timecode, but I’m wondering why I can’t seem to find (or perhaps there doesn’t exist) a simpler way to, say, just place the playhead on a specific frame and ask AE to “Reveal Frame in Finder”. Of course, I’m specifically talking about image sequences here, as this wouldn’t work or make any sense with video files. But the same could be said about the current “Reveal in Finder” command in terms of image sequences: when you click on that it simply opens the folder where all your images are held but wouldn’t it be common sense (not to mention more practical) if it went a step further and revealed the actual image shown? The fact is that short of popping a text layer with a timecode expression on it and having it coincide with your image sequence layer, there seems to be no way of finding out what specific image you’re on right now…

With your image sequence layer selected, press Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Cmd+Opt+E (macOS) to display the filename of the frame at the current time in the Info panel.
