    Good day all!

So I’ve got a nice fullscreen background that I modified in Motion 5 and saved. Everything is peachy right up to the point that I want to modify when the animation comes up. The fullscreen background has about 5 seconds of graphics moving about, then the titles wipe in. What I’m trying to do is have only the portion of the background with the title be used. In FCP7 you could just put an edit just before the title animation starts and delete all of the previous part of the background clip, and the title animation would start right where you intended.

What I’m experiencing is when I try to shorten the fullscreen background all that I accomplish is retiming the WHOLE CLIP instead. So no matter how much I try to get rid of background prior to the titles all i am able to do is speed up the whole animation, not cut it to shorten it.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks in advance!

Two things come to mind… Delete the bits you don’t want using Motion and re-save, or turn the generated clip into a compound clip and cut it as you did in FCP 7.

Go back into your Motion project. Place a marker after the initial gfx fly-in. Right click and choose Edit Marker. Change the marker type to Optional Build In.

Make sure there aren’t any Mandatory Build In Markers in the project already (since you said it was a modified, existing generator).

In FCP add the generator to your project and in the inspector for the generator, uncheck the Build In button so that the initial gfx fly-in won’t be displayed.
