  • Restoring Archived AVC-HD project efficiently

    Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked, I am not sure how to effectively search it in the forum.

I am in the process of experimenting with archiving and restoring projects shot using AVC-HD. My strategy which has been suggested here is to archive by deleting all the ProRes files and just keeping the raw AVC files. This works fine, but in a lot of cases I transcode more of the clip that was originally needed. I am curious if there is a way to only restore the parts of the video clip that I used in the timeline to save myself restoration time. Example: I have a 10 minute interview that I only use 4 or 5 bites from. It would save me a lot of time to only retranscode those 5 bites as opposed to the entire interview.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I don’t believe there’s any way to only “re transcode” only what’s contained in a sequence which started as a full transcode of the avchd material…

Best to just keep the prores.

    Thanks Jerry,

Right now keeping the ProRes isn’t really an option. Budget is tight so getting additional drives is tough, being able to store a few extra projects on that drive can be quite helpful. I can wait for it to transcode again as I don’t often restore the projects and they’re all pretty short at this point in time.

    Thanks,

    Mark
