So far, my projects have been miniDV using firewire. But next year I plan on upgrading, possibly to HD capabilities. I’d also like to use a real monitor. I know that a capture card is the way to go. Where can I find some info explaining the different input and output options available to me. I’m confused: HDMI, SDI, HD-SDI, DVI, component, composite, RS-422, 10-bit, 8-bit, 12-bit. Aghhh!

    Let Google be your friend.

HDCAM, DVCPro HD, HDV, XDCAM HD, so many formats and data rates. SATA drives RAIDS XSAN Capture Cards, so many choices.

For critical HD monitoring, stay away from cheap LCD monitors. Check out Panasonic’s BT-LH1700W or BT-LH2600W.
