What type of EDLs can Resolve accept (i.e. CMX 3600, GVG 4, etc.)?

What other type of formats can Resolve use? FCP XML? Avid AAF? Anything?

Is there a way for Resolve to interpret Reel IDs longer than 8 characters… for example, the 16 character RED Reel IDs? Does the Resolve look at the Source Table at the end of EDLs and interpret the longer reel IDs?

I’m gathering that not much has changed, and a colleague responded thus:

“CMX3600 vision only generic edits (no B-Reel, no Pre-Read) of the target video track only (usually V1).
I’ve not had any problems with the number of characters in the file name but it’s usually sensible to keep it short.
I have had Avid warn me if there are more than 1,000 events in the EDL as CMX3600 lists can only go up to event 999. Longer timelines will need to be split to accommodate. I don’t know how clever Final Cut Pro is on this score but it’s never arisen.”

The Resolve can only use up eight characters at the moment, and can work with CMX 3600 EDL’s, or conform with ALE files. Still some work to do from the new team being assembled at Black Magic, but Davinci will continue to have a strong presence in our industry, and most likely will have a “coming out party” at the next NAB in Vegas.

Apple Color can handle the entire file names from the red camera if you use FCP “Log & Transfer”, and round trip the project to Apple Color, the then back to FCP.

    ciao.
