November 13, 2020 at 7:17 pmBlackmagic has just announced that the beta version of Resolve 17.1 has been posted, with the headline feature being support for macOS Big Sur. What took them so long? ?

November 13, 2020 at 9:22 pmBMD just stated this about The new DR for the M1
“the unified memory architecture on M1 enables DaVinci Resolve 17.1 to leverage the power of CPU and GPU processing more effectively, avoiding the need for PCI Express transfers. As stated by Blackmagic: “Significantly, the combination of M1, Metal processing, and DaVinci Resolve 17.1 offers up to 5 times better performance when compared to previous generation computers”.
I wonder if this is on these new mads they presented? and what does 5 times better performance means?

November 14, 2020 at 7:26 pmI would take all of these performance claims with a huge grain of salt. At least until enough are out in the wild. If you read the fine print on much of this testing, it’s made against similar Intel Macs with integrated Intel GPUs. Not against the top AMD cards or for that matter, a smoking Nvidia card in a PC.
