After import the timeline is scrambled, looks like the show isn’t in order.

1st) imported the red files into the media pool
    2) imported XML with the “Automatic Import” set off.

I’ve placed all the R3D, and ref qt’s in 1 folder for easy organization, but the show is saying “mssing filles” and now the timeline is coming up with blank edits.

If I tried importing an EDL instead, the timeline is scrambled, but I can check the letter mismatch icon, and reselect each clip, taking forever.

    any suggestions please??

To continue, I made a couple experiments. Somehow Resolve is just looking at the timecode, and not the file names when conforming an XML. If there is 2 Red files with the same timecode, it will just pick the 1st on it sees. If it sees the right clip with the unique timecode, it will match up fine.

You should ALWAYS keep R3d files in their RDC folders. Otherwise you’ll get unpredictable results.

    I FOUND THE ANSWER!!!

Importing an XML from FCP doesn’t have to hard at all. If you’re DIT renamed the folders, or you have all R3D files in one folder, it doesn’t matter. Follow this solution before importing a RED show XML:

Under Project settings lists the “Timeline Conform Options”
Click on the Assist using reel numbers from the:
    “Embedding in source clip file”

Then import the R3d files into the media pool, and then load the XML. Do not click the Automatic import source clips.

    Done!!!

Yeah, its magic if it works 🙂
I wonder why its so picky or unusable with the auto import function.
It also seems to have problems when the Red media is in several sub-folders as would would have when shooting on several days.
In the future , a nice “Search and replace” function would be awesome.
