I filmed a dance video in SD (mini-DV, 720×480 NTSC).

The dancers are complaining that they look heavier than in real life and want me to make them appear thinner.

All I can think of doing is to chop off some of the top and bottom of the video and then resize the video back to 720×480 to stretch the video taller so the dancers will appear thinner.

    Will this work?

    1. Will this introduce some pixilation? Will the video still look right?

    2. Will this even really make the dancers appear thinner? Or will the viewer’s eye see through this trick and the viewer won’t really perceive them as any thinner?

You could try that, but I think it would be obvious something wasn’t right.

Video production can be more than just the technical aspects that are involved. I have made a few commercials with women in them who were self-conscious about how they looked. I had to convince them they looked great.
