    hello

In avid you can resize the picture, scale it hight and width, which helps in resizing footage from 16:9 to 4:3 but in FCP seems like you cant choose it resizes the whole thing!
how can i choose to change the width OR the hight?

this i very strange , i still cant get my anamorphic sequence look 4:3 when copying it into 4:3 sequence so i want to try this option of resizing it

Look for the distort tool for what you want to do. This is not the correct way to make anamorphic footage 4:3. But you can try it.

The previous poster is correct. But, to be precise:

    1. Double click on the shot in the timeline you want to mess about with.

    2. See the little box called “Viewer”

    3. Go to the tab called “Motion”

    4. Click on “Basic motion” – it opens and you will see “scale”. Try messing with that …

    5. Click on “Disort” and then mess with the “Aspect ratio” slider.

    Voila!.

I apologise if this seems to be baby language, but when someone is explaining something to me I prefer to be treated like an idiot child myself.

    Best

so what could be the reason that the sequence is not changing when i move it to 4:3 sequence?!!!

If you have a 4:3 sequence open and you edit a 16:9 sequence into it, the nested sequence should appear as letterbox. If that’s not happening can you explain exactly what it is you doing, step by step, and what it is you’re trying to achieve.

    All the best,

Sometimes FCP when importing doesn’t recognise 16:9 or when digitised had the wrong settings.

Check in the bin a column called anamorphic with a check box – see if it is interpreted correctly.

then 16:9 clips should come in letterboxed to a 4:3 sequence.

scale 133% to fill 4:3 frame. can look a bit soft depending on the source of the video.

my easy set up is set to DV PAL
my sequence setting is : 720×576 CCIR 601/DV PAL (5:4)
    ANAmorphic box is checked
    field dominance – upper
    tim-base 25
    compressor – DV PAL

i create a new sequence with the exact setting and uncheck the anamorphic box and then i copy my anamorphic one to the new one and ….. still look stretched to the hight . no letter box

i need to print the tape ASAP , what to do?

the footage whs shot 16:9 on sony 150 and doesnt have a letterbox in my sequnce but it looks the right way (in the anamorphic seq)

    ok this is really strange
i copied and past the seq. and it works (finally) , instead of dragging the whole seq. to the new one. but what’s really strange is that some of the footage got a letterbox and some didn’t?!!! even though the ones that didn’t were shot in the same way !!! when i match fram and re-edit the footage to the new seq. it looks fine …. do i have to go shot by shot and cange them all ?!!!!!

sorry, its me again, please bear with me i have to finish this, ok i am going now through each and every shot and make sure that it look right, one more problem that i’m facing one, that there were shots of pictures that i made a zoom in too and now i see that the letter box changes too… what to do in this case (these are still photos and its zooms in to one and zoom out from the other )

Is the aspect ratio in the distort menu of the motion settings -33%? (16:9 in a 4:3 sequence)

You can copy the settings then paste them to the appropriate clips:
Ctrl click on clip, copy, then select 16:9 clips, ‘paste attributes’ – choose ‘distort’

or you could create a matte, as you may have letterboxed footage already – place slug on V2, add 4 point garbage matte, change all to 220 or -220 or so, then invert.
