Rescuing Camera Mic Audio
We’ve had a tech disaster on a recent talking heads studio shoot. Two camera setup, with the boom mic running into Camera A and Camera B just running a top mic for sync. Guess which media we lost? Yup, Camera A with the proper audio.
Can anybody help with a trick for reducing the off-mic feel on the camera mic audio? Audition’s Noise Reduction has done a little bit of good but there’s still not the ‘flat’ sound of decent audio.
Unfortunately I’m not an audio guy and am trying to do the best I can to save what could be a difficult shoot to re-schedule!

It’s difficult to remove all the air, i.e. the extra sound due to the mic distance from subject. However I was able to improve somewhat.
First, redo your noise reduction. I was able to remove a lot of noise. Make sure you sample an area with ambient sound only. No speaking, cars, birds, etc. Then set NR for 70& and Reduce 9db.
Now go to Effects/Special/Vocal Enhancer/Male. This will bring up the bass a bit.

For future reference, Izotope Rx can work miracles when Audition’s tools don’t do well.

Thanks for that tip and good job on the recovery. Not perfect but you are not going to get perfect with that problem. This kind of mistake keeps me up at night and makes me extra vigilant at shoots re: media integrity and audio clarity,
