    Hi Guys

i run a G5 Quad with AJA KONA LHE. i need some additional storage and i am looking at the sonnet Tempo SATA E4P with the fusion 500 enclosure. but i’ve also heard about the High Point Rocket 2322 card.

now i want speed and expandability with some form of redundancy. (probably raid 5)

the reason for my need for speed is the fact i may be capturing HD cam in the near future (the codec i capture is a question for another time)

i would like to hear from anyone who has had any experience with either of these cards and if one is better than the other. i think the rocket card has a hardware raid controller? and the sonnet is software controlled also i wonder if the size of the drives in the enclosure makes a difference. ideally i would initially want to purchase one of the sata cards with an enclosure containing 500gb drives – as many as possible – the fusion 500p contains 5 drives and the one for the rocket contains 4. is this ideal or should i buy two enclosures and fill them with 250gb drives.

i know that the more drives i have the faster the raid but i figure that if i can buy one enclosure with 500gb drives for now i can buy a second enclosure with 500gb drives later. (as the HD stuff isn’t imminent)

money is always an issue but i’d rather pay more for somthing that will work and be expandable later than be stuck with something that becomes redundant.

forgive me if this makes no sense.

    and thanks

    Nick

I don’t own either, but if you haven’t seen these I thought they might be helpful.
There’s a review of the all-internal port version of the 2322 at Barefeats.com. They seem to imply
that the 2322, which wasn’t shipping at the time of the review, will perform the same, but have some
    external ports. (and yes, it’s controller card/firmware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, & 50)

Here are tests of the Sonnett:
