    Hi all,
First I want to say how much I like the new version of PP CS6. Have been testing the past 3 weeks and would like to see our facility do a project using PP CS6 in the future.

Hoping that Adobe has the following in it’s plans so that facilities like our could use PP.

    a. Media & Project Managing like AVID
    – Needs to team centric instead of being designed for a single workstation.

    b. Better Media Re-Linking
    – As I understand it, you still have to relink each clip individually.
    – It would be great if PP could scan a volume or folder on it’s own and relink all media in a project.

    Thanks!

    Hi Craig,

as near as I can figure it when relinking PPro does the following:

1st Checks for media at last known valid location
2nd Checks for all media at path relative of old structure of first newly relinked clip
3rd Checks for all media at path of first relinked clip

so while it’s by no means bullet proof, it’s slightly inaccurate to say that you will have to relink each clip individually.

    hope that helps…

Alex, is there a way to see the “last known path” when reconnecting a clip?

One thing I really miss about FCP is that it showed you the last location of a missing file right in the reconnect window.

    Mike…

I agree…I actually use the feature you are talking about in Motion all the time. I had actually dropped a feature request to Adobe about this at one point.

    not 100% on this…

you might try right clicking on an offline clip in the project panel and choosing Properties.
I think I tested this once, and this panel retained the info even if the clip is offline.

One thing I some times do is not alter clip names in the PPro Project panel, but rather arrange my columns so that the description column was the first column in the panel, and use that for descriptive name.

that way when I had to do a relink of some obscurely named file, I could copy the file name before entering relink to allow me to paste it in search….It’s a sucky work around….but it beats typing an mxf file name by hand.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Alex.

Clip properties is the first place I looked when I started to acquaint myself with Premiere Pro. Unfortunately, if the clip is offline, then there is no file path info. And when the project is an imported FCP XML, the media is ALWAYS offline.

I tend to organize my own projects rather carefully, but the file path function was important when opening up any that landed in my lap that I had not started.

I’m actually quite amazed that “last known location” has not made an appearance in Premiere Pro, even InDesign and their other print-oriented apps, keep a record of where linked files were last located.
