I almost don’t want to take the job because to do it right, I’ll need to do some complicated stuff (roto, tracking, paint). It sounds painful. Any of you ever attempt the effect? Know of a tutorial? Isn’t there one on the Cow somewhere?

I know how I’d approach it, but would like to hear from someone that has already succeeded. I estimate it will take about 2 solid days to pull off the 30 second spot.

    Thanks in advance.

Is a start in Shake, but pretty basic.

I read somewhere in the real ad that the headphones were drawn by hand, anyway, goodluck!

Bill O’Neil did a series of iPod spoof commercials for one of his clients. In this AE tutorial, he discusses how it was shot and some of the post work. Might give you some ideas.

Also, click on his picture to find his bio page — it will list his other tutorials as well. In one he uses AE’s vector paint to rotoscope.

Kathleen beat me to it. I was at http://www.chicagospots.com checking out Bill O’Neil’s iPod spoof called: “Smithe Garage Band”

Here’s two links, one for the site’s gallery page and one for the actual .wmv video file:

Mr. O’Neil was the guest on a previous CreativeCow podcast. I’m sure if you contacted him he’d be more than willing to help out a star of the Cow forums.

I helped to make a spoof a little bit ago. Shot it on green, and barely light the actors. For the white, we had white piping put in to the wardrobe to give it a little kick, but we didn’t need to imitate the headphones so that part we could skip, which would have been most of the work.

    It worked out pretty well.
