I’ve got a complex project supervising the restoration of a 16mm documentary from the ’80s. There are a few sections that require subtitles which we will have to go back to resolve to burn them in. I was given an srt file that I was able to import into premiere and tweak the vertical position as the subtitles need to occasionally be repositioned to avoid sitting on top of pre-existing graphics… I then exported an srt file (without styles) and brought that in to resolve and found that if I change the position of one caption, all the captions are repositioned to match…

So I’m guessing I have to recreate the captions as individual “titles.” Not a horrible problem, opening the caption, selecting all the text, copying and then pasting in to a new text clip, but wondering if I’m missing something…

    Thanks

    Hi Michael,

There is a clever option in Resolve to have a separate style for any subtitle on the timeline. Underneath the Caption text field there is a little checkbox that says, ‘Use Track Style’. If you deselect this, you can create your own style for that particular caption. Hope this makes sense.

thanks. couldn’t find this in the documentation or by asking a few people that know more about resolve than I do… Much appreciated. If you’re in NYC, would happily buy you a beer or 2…

You’re welcome, there’s lots of hidden features in Resolve we discover all the time. Actually I live in Australia (near Sydney) but if I ever get to NYC I’ll take you up on the beers 🙂
