Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Report: Rendering BluRay from V8 timeline

  • Report: Rendering BluRay from V8 timeline

Since online info on the subject has been so scarce, I thought I’d contribute my limited findings thus far on trying to burn a BluRay disc from the Vegas 8 Pro timeline, just so there’s a little more info out there…

So far, I have taken both HDV projects and WMVHD files, put them on the timeline, added markers, and either rendered and burned them to BluRay discs or just renedered the ISO file and burned later from V8. I’ve used a Lite-On burner that I got from Newegg for $459. Once I learned from Sony tech support that I needed drive space equalling 4-5 times the estimated size of the rendered ISO file in order to complete a render, it’s been pretty smooth sailing.

(For those like me who didn’t know, ownership of Vegas 8 Pro comes with 60 days of FREE tech support from the first incident. Invaluable! I was on the phone in seconds with someone very familiar with all known issues and possible solutions. Much faster than forums or message boards.)

I burned a full video onto a Verbatin BD-R (version 1.1) and took it to Best Buy, Fry’s, Circuit City, and a local chain. The disc DID play on the Sony PS3, the Pioneer Elite (not sure of the model, but it was $999), and the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. It also played fine from the Lite-On drive via the included Cyberlink HD software. It did NOT play on the Samsung BD-P1400, the Sony BDP-S300, or the Sharp Aquos BD-HP20.

My biggest disappointment is in the Sony BDP-S300, since it’s Sony, and since it can be had at Wal-Mart for $348 plus 10 movies, or at Best Buy for $399 plus 6 movies AND a $100 gift card. I would love for this model to work, not just for me but also my clients who would have to buy a player. Although the PS3 seems to be the most popular player, I feel odd about recommending a gaming console to a non-gaming client as the best way to play my videos. (Douglas Spotted Eagle – have you tried the newest 3.30 firmware upgrade yet for your BDP-S300? Any luck playing BD-Rs burned from the timeline?)

The only other bug I’ve experienced is that two V8 projects crashed yesterday in the middle of rendering. Something about this memory can’t read from this jumbled number to that jumbled number. But I changed the destination drive and both renders worked fine. Hope this info helps!

Bob, I’m out of the country at the moment, and no…have not updated the firmware past 2.6. Will do so on my return to the States. I’ll still be surprised if it plays em’ though.
FWIW, i didn’t experience the render problem you’re having, simply because we have a few external drives that are exclusively “render to” drives, and once the project is complete, we port the finished render back to the project drive(s). Provides for a faster render but more importantly, helps decrease risk of a project drive failure. This habit goes back to the early days of SloTools. Probably not necessary today…but it works.

Bob, would you please tell me how you rendered an iso image using Vegas? I am trying to put HD footage on a regular (non HD) DVD. Apparently you can do it. Thanks.
