  • Replacing multiple layers from a psd file in a comp

I have a psd file, made in photoshop, that consist of a lot of layers, say 12. I import the file as a composition and add transformations and effects to the different layers.
Then i want to do a similar composition but with another psd file, containing the same number of layers in the same size as the first one.
Right now I make a copy of the first aep project and in the new copy I manualy replace every layer, one after the other, with the “Replace footage” command but I am sure there is some quicker way to just replace the psd file in one step but I cant figure it out.
Is there such away and if so, can someone please tell me how?
I use this kind of “workflow” often and could save a lot of time if its possible. I know I can have a “universal” name for the psd-files and just place the new aep copy “next to” another psd file with the same name as the original and “relink” the footage and it works but I would like to have different names for my psd files.

Did you ever find a work around for this? I am in the same situation. I’m creating 3D boxes out of Photoshop layers in AE. When we get new box designs for the client, I need to replace the layers (relink each one by one) in the AE project file. One or two at a time isn’t an issue, but I’ll regularly get 20+ designs, each with 6 layers to replace. The time adds up very quickly.

Unfortunately I never found a good workaround (though I am sure there must be some).
I use a template project and make a new copy of that where I replace the psd file with the one I want to use, keeping the same name. It works but has limitations.
If you are more succesful in your search and ever finds a better way, please post it here.

    best regards Joakim
