    Hey Guys,

I’ve been working on a project recently that I was brought in to take over the edit for a director that had been editing himself. What I realized upon beginning this project is that the director never took the time to sync the sound and instead just began cutting using the on camera audio. So, after a lot of back and forth with the producers and some advice from you guys, I set off to began syncing all the sound to the R3Ds in Premiere CS5.5 by using the “merge clips” feature. I then renamed the files in the bins and got the project properly set up.

So, now it’s almost as if I have two projects inside my one project: The original messy file structure and timeline from the director, and my newly organized structure. However, the only timeline still references his old unsynced clips. Is there a way to make the timeline reference my synced up clips instead, and add in the 4 new tracks of sound? Or, am I going to have to just go back and forth and find the in and out points for each clip he had put in his timeline and assemble an entirely new timeline myself? I was hopeful for a bit that I might be able to use the replace footage feature, but that doesn’t appear to be designed for what I’m trying to do.. I was thinking there must be a way to transfer the cut points for the clips across timelines given all the clips have the same names… I just can’t seem to figure out a workable way.. Any advice would be extremely appreciated!

    Best,
    Tanner
