  • Replacing business sign that’s not square or rectangle

    The image is at: https://www.friskevision.com/dloads/replace_logo.jpg

I’m at a loss here. I’m trying to replace a business sign in footage that pans left to right. I’ve attached a jpg for reference. I’ve tried corner pin tracking but since it’s not a square or rectangle that doesn’t work. And I can’t get the image to fit properly using normal techniques since it’s not a standard shape. On top of that the sign isn’t fully on the screen.

As you can see in the image I’ve tracked it using a single pin track but that doesn’t help either. The red is the shape of the replacement layer.

Any advice on tracking/animating the replacement sign to fit is greatly appreciated.

I’m on AE CS3 Production bundle.

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply! I completely understand what you’re saying about the solid. What I don’t understand is once I do that, how do i replace the solid with the actual logo of the building?

    Thanks Dave!
    I’ll give it a shot.

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for all of your help on this, but I’m not getting it or missing something. I understand the solid and track matte and then parenting the logo to the solid.

Where it falls apart is, the logo photo was taken at a weird angle, so the solid and logo never match up size wise.

    I hope that makes sense.

    Hi Dave (again),

Agreed that is the preferred method and that’s what I usually do. The problem is, the company is so huge and worldwide that no one can find who actually did the logo since it’s a variation of their logo for the building and it was a couple of years ago.

It’s been really frustrating trying to get this logo out of them.
    Hopefully I didn’t make you mad. 🙂
