  • Replacing a color in a precomp? NOOB LEVEL

I’m going to have a precomp that will be used in 4 layers in the main comp. What’s the best way to replace a given color in the layers?

(I should know this but it’s been a couple years since I used AE.)

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re getting at. You have a single precomp that you want to re-use multiple times, but you want to replace one of the colors for your different uses?

There’s a new feature in Ae — essential properties — that makes this much easier than it used to be. Here are some helpful links:

    Hi Eric

Walter’s advice using Essential graphics is great, and will work in most scenarios.

If you bump into trouble you can always use True Layer Duplicator to duplicate precomp hierarchy

Thanks Walter and Liran: I (vaguely) remember seeing a presentation at Adobe HQ on just this feature, but it had slipped my mind. A very helpful reminder, thanks.

(Trying to use “Change Color” or whatever it is is NOT very much fun.)
