Replace footage by Sequence
I edited a short movie on FCP while I was in Germany. I still have the raw footage (.mov), the FCP project, an EDL, and the final Quicktime on an external HD. Recently, I wanted to tighten the pacing. Because I don’t have a Mac, I simply imported the final Quicktime in PPRO and did some major editing on it.
Now that I’ve spent lots of time on this new cut, I realise that I want to go back to my original sources. See the final Quicktime is black and white and I now I want the colour back (it looks so pretty)! So I imported the EDL as a new sequence in the same PPRO project.
Now, I want the new work that I did on the B&W Quicktime file to be applied to my EDL-sourced colour sequence. Basically, I need a way to replace the B&W quicktime in the re-edit Sequence with the colour Sequence. I would know how to replace one video file with another one (unlink the media in the project window then link with another file), but is it possible to automatically replace a video file with a sequence, within another sequence?
Before anybody suggests it, I know that I could export the colour sequence as a video file, then unlink the B&W quicktime and re-link the media to the colour video file. But I want to keep the original edit as a sequence so that I can easily go back to it, do colour correction, etc.
If there is no way of doing the swapping “legally” within PPRO, maybe I can manually edit the prproj file? Wouldn’t be the first time…
