    How do i perform replace edit to swap the a new version of an fx shot, yet maintain, transitions and fx from the older version in media composer 2.8?

    There is a replace edit function. Looks like Splice In (yellow) and Overwrite (red) but is colored blue.
    You can choose MarkClip to select the right segment in the timeline, park on a sync point in the record monitor, park on a sync point in the source monitor and apply Replace Edit.
    It will keep transition effects, but any effects on the segment itself will be gone. To keep those, you need to “step into” the effect, by using the up/down arrows in the lower left of the timeline.

    you can also just mark an in where that in is and an out where that our is (or just hit mark in/out while parked on that clip) and then hit override.
