Replace crt with LCD
My last post was unclear, obviously.
I want to replace my 2 19″ CRT’s with one LCD.
I would like recommendations for an LCD monitor.What target refresh (or response) rate do I need?
Are the apple cinema displays the best? (16ms) Would they be fine for a pc?
Anyone using the HPf 2105’s? (8ms)
Is 8ms better or worse than 16ms? (It seems the lower number should be better- am i wrong) HP has a new 22″ wit 5ms.
Not sure in Texas!

you have not specified what system you are on. If you are on a Meridian PC, no matter what LCD monitors you get, you will get noise on the

I’m on a custom built PC from a company called Puget Sound computers and the video card is a nvidea geforce 9600. (It is quiet – fo fans)
My old card was a matrox millenium P750 and wonder whether I should get that back.

5ms or 8ms is good.
I used Apple Cinema display on a feature over the summer…seemed fine. I use a 22″ Samsung widescreen with my media composer software version at home…Luv it…Just try to aim for the lowest number you can in milliseconds…as long as your software and your vid card is decent your good to go…more importantly,just get the best you can for your money…try newegg.Jerry Clark

A good friend and long time video pro said that the higher the number equals better preformance. This seemed odd but since the apple cinema display is 16ms I figured I was mistaken. Also the run of the mill LCD’s seem to be 5ms where the better onces go to 6 ms and 8 ms.
So, not to be insulting in any way are you certain the lower number of ms is better?Thanks
The Dell ultra sharp has good reviews and there is an HP unit with 8ms.

If your doing video…your “response rate” should be as low as you can get it…5ms to 8ms…this coincides with your video card as well. If an LCD’s response time is too slow, meaning too high, the display’s pixels won’t be able to keep up with the information sent from the computer’s graphics card and may result in some distortion and ghosting of the image. A lot of things obviously make up an LCD monitor but with today’s response rates getting lower, and lower, meaning good, they are beginning to more closely match CRT’s..You can get a better response time and more bang for you buck without spending on the Apple Cinema Display which, quite frankly, I think are over priced…
