  • Replace clip with and keep timing

Posted by Burt Holland on February 27, 2019 at 5:41 pm

Is it possible to replace a clip and maintain speed adjustments? Been searching the web and can’t find the answer anywhere. I have about 900 clips I need to replace with frame holds throughout.

    Thanks,

    Unfortunately, no.

And I really hope someone smarter than me posts that I’m wrong and tells us how to do it! But I have never figured out how to do it.

The workaround is to select the clip in your timeline, copy, replace, paste attributes. But if you have used the speed blade tool to create custom ramps and stuff – that doesn’t copy over.

Hey Burt! Good to see you in here. I think you’re out of luck as far as a perfect solution goes. The usual process is to copy the clip, option-R to replace the clip, then shift+cmd+V to paste effects, attributes and such back. But timing doesn’t seem to always work or work right. Maybe you just do option+R to replace, then shift+H to hold…. 900 times. Ugh. Maybe you can relink the actual media instead?

Some more details and we might have a solution.

Hey Bret, I don’t get to push the buttons as much anymore ☺ Didn’t want to do the replace file thing because I still needed the original but just thought about the fact that I can duplicate the project first. Hope to save some time tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Burt
