  • replace assets on FCP timeline?

Posted by Art Lee on October 5, 2011 at 4:43 am

In After Effects, if you select an item on the timeline and then drag another asset from the project (browser) onto it whilst holding down Alt, the original asset is replaced with the new one. This is exceedingly handy! Is there a similar function in FCP?

    Thanks!

I think you might be looking for replace edit. Like insert or overwrite or fit to fill, replace edit is an option.

Read the manual to find out more or just try it.

De-select all the clips in your timeline. Load the new shot in the viewer window. Click in the Viewer window. Command C to copy. Now, click on the clip you want to replace and Command V. Select Content and the new clip will replace the old clip and keep all of the attributes, filters and motion.

Thanks, when I follow those instructions the clip is replaced but the attributes are not retained(motion, filters, disolves(?)) What do you mean by Command V. Select Content? Is that something different to just Command V? (thats what I am doing)

    Cheers

Oops, that would be OPTION-V, not COMMAND-V.
That should work for you. My bad.
