Here it is July and of course my office is a sweltering million plus degrees and low and behold, LaCie 2 TB Bigger drives begin to crash and drop like flies…

BTW i know not much of a FCP question, just thought most of you have come across this a time or two, if theres a more appropriate forum I’ll take any direction…

Mind you i do have said drives backed up, so not all is lost, just a couple, 2 ton bricks are clicking away. These drives have seen their time and worked marvelously, but in this heat who can blame em. I’ve done all diagnostics i can, disk-warrior, etc. and I’ve taken them to a couple data recovery places around town and they’ve confirmed my fears that one of the read heads is malfunctioning in both and quoted me with the modest sums around 2,000 each to recover the data. But like i said, I did have them backed up on other drives, so I guess my question really is, does anyone know anyone that repairs out of warranty laCie drives, and how much ballpark could run? Or would the cost be comparable to buying new ones… to replace the 4TB capacity lost.

And thank god I’ve convinced the powers that be to move to a central air place. Also now we are working off a SATA raid system so, basically I’m just looking for these two to begin working as archiving media drives

I think that to change the head of an HD could cost you the same than a 8TB Raid. HDs are assembled in completely dust proof environments. i guess they must be open in a similar place.
