Repair facility for high-end mics

Ty, or anyone else here know of a reliable repairman for mics?

I’ve got a Senn KSM-81, Beyer MC742, and a few other condensers that have been sitting on the shelf for way too long. I’ve called the US reps for each, but they want way too much to look at them – and some can’t do the repair at all.

Thanks Ty. I’ll give em a call and see if they want a challenge.

Oh yeah, I meant to say Shure SM-81 in my sleep-deprived fog.

Both that mic and the Beyer, which is a really great axis-aligned stereo large diaphragm, work, but both have some grounding or isolation issues. Picking up commercial radio broadcasts even.

Will,

I have been using cables terminated with Neutrik EMC XLR connectors. They’re fiddly to wire up, but have eliminated my cell phone polling noise.

Maybe get Eric Toline to make you one to see if that helps. audioetc@bellsouth.net

Will,

You could make up your own mic cables using a 100 microFarad capacitor on the Pin-1, output side of the cable to shunt anything above audio frequencies to ground and remove/significantly attenuate it from your signal path. They’re cheap and it’s a simple fix. Google around for info.
