Repair Disk Permissions isn’t working…
Posted by Michael Orlansky on May 15, 2009 at 7:42 pmAnyone ever repair disk permissions, restart, run the repair again and see that it keeps repairing the same incorrect disk permissions?
We’ve just updated to 10.5.6 so I’ve been repairing permissions on all of our workstations but noticing the same thing each time as stated above.
Any ideas or suggestions? (I am running disk utility from our local admin accounts)
Thanks
Thanks,

I was always under the impression that you’re supposed to repair permissions while booted from the disk that contains OS X that you’re trying to repair, but I’ll certainly give it a shot booted from the install disc.
Thank you.

Have a wonderful day.

May 16, 2009 at 4:58 amIn my experience disk utility can often find minor permission issues. Usualy they are things with printer drivers or other minor applications. Often it is because the applicatio, driver, or whatever has some funny code or something.
99% of the time when disk utility continualy finds things it is not a real problem.
What permissions issues does disk utility continualy find? Is it the same thing everytime?

May 16, 2009 at 7:03 amIn Mac OSX there are some kind of accumulative errors.
So there are certain errors can not be fixed until some other have been fixed before.
When I run DiskWarrior, most of the time the directories are not 100% cleaned at firt try.
A second pass, after Repairing Permissions, normally works.
I don’t see Repairing Permissions much useful if doesn’t go together with a more deep optimization.

May 18, 2009 at 12:59 pmYes it appears to find the same incorrect permissions each time. They look to be minor issues, things with User Templates, Front Row and iTunes.
No one seems to be having any significant issues other than printing but I figured after running a big update it would be a good idea.
Thanks for all the responses.
Thanks,
Mike
