repackaging and selling motion content
Let’s say hypothetically I’m thinking about taking 50 or so of the built in effects that are in motion, and repackaging and selling them as a set of FCP X templates for $50. Not going to change them, just publish parameters and what not. How does that sound? Legal, moral, sneaky, or just plain genius?

If you put the prefix “Pro” on your products, it’ll be a game-changer. And remember to not point out the limitations and limited variation of your effects. But make LOTS of them, with really cool names. Like IndieGrundgeLensGateweaveFlareBurn (yeah, that’s one effect. Very killer. Shows you’ve got street cred.)

It’s the 50 Motion text templates built into motion, published as FCP X plugins. Same title fx that came with LiveMotion 10 years ago in fact.
So if that’s legal, it’s genius. I think I’ll repackage them myself and sell them for $20. That’s $30 cheaper! 🙂

Tracey from CineFlare and I (Dylan) combined our supernatural powers to build Title Pop. We wanted a title pack that looked good for the quick drag and drop edit and customizable enough for unique text animations. After adding the final ingredients we stirred the cauldron and out came Title Pop.
They did stir the cauldron which I reckon probably makes it worth the 50 bucks.

Have you watched it? The effects are the same. They admit that. Even keeped the same names. No doubt they had to create all the custom published parameters, but from what I see its just the same as it live type and motion counterparts as far as what can be done. Their demo sports the exact effects right from the motion and live type preview videos.
Certainly interesting. There’s a whole heap of motion fx that are just waiting to be ported and sold if this is ok. And it might be.

How about €7.90 for a single Motion filter? Or an adjustment layer?
At that rate I could charge a few hundred for the other publishable Motion features…
It might take a few days to make the plug-ins, but imagine the profits!
