    Hi

    I’m rendering some long comps (20 mins and up to 50 mins) and they start out looking at around 8 hours to render but get slower and slower and basically almost stop – or too long to be workable 24 hours plus!

    I’m using fast render in Gridiron 1.04 with a G4 dual 1.25ghz, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.

    Any ideas

    Looks like they’re coming across some more complex effects as the renderer steps through the frames. If your comp starts out very simple it will tell you how long based on the frame it’s rendering…if it hits something more complex it will shoot up, assuming that everything after that frame is the same complexity.

    I’d maybe do a really lo-res and small frame sized render and see where the slowing down happens and then you can better gauge what to do.

    20-50 mins is VERY long for an AE comp though!

    If you have a render famr maybe put it through that? Or render portions of the comp separately?

    Adding to jimmybee’s low-res suggestion, to get a sense of the expected render time of your comp (assuming everything is working normally) you can drag the comp into another comp, and speed up the footage by some ridiculous amount in that comp. When you render that, you’ll be rendering a sample of the frames, evenly spaced along the comp. Then you multiply that render time by the speed-up factor that you used to get an idea of the true render time. This tends to even out the render estimate … if I recall. 🙂
