I have Sony Vegas 8 and have been burning blu ray discs with video from a Sony HD handycam. The current options are 8 mbps or 25 mpbs. Is there any way to encode at a level in between those two? 8mbps suffers in quality – and 25mbps eats up a lot of space.

A single layer Blu-ray disc can store approximately 2 hrs 15 min of MPEG2 video at 25Mbps. How much video are you trying to fit on a disc? Yes, you can change the bit rate but do you really want to sacrifice quality for space?

You could render to AVCHD at 15Mbps and get about 3 hrs and 40 minutes on a single layer Blu-ray disc.
