I`m using Vegas pro version 8c.

I render my project to mpeg 2, and set video quality to best
I set the bit rate to constant 8000 000
The video is 12 minutes, and it will take about 20 % space on a dvd.

I tried to look at the mpeg in WMP and it is really crappy

When prepare the file for in dvd architect I get the message that the file will be compressed. WHY? I can`t remember this form earlier project. I havn`t actually finished this for dvd, but I`m affraid that the quality will be shitty. WHat can I do?

Render using one of the DVD Architect templates and it won’t be recompressed. You must have changed something to make the file non-compliant for DVD.

I pick the “PAL DVD”, and then I change the video to best, I set constant bit rate 8000 000. Does that make it non-compatible with dvd-architect? Which template should I pick for best result with dvd architect?

    > I pick the “PAL DVD”…

That’s not a DVD Architect template. Try starting with DVD Architect PAL video stream template and see if that helps. You’ll have to render your audio separate as Dolby Digital AC3 or PCM Wave.
