rendering working area?
Posted by David Lord on July 12, 2013 at 2:54 amHi all, sorry if this is an amateur question, but I have some clips in my sequence that are playing back very choppy because of the effects, I want to render the work area so I can play it back smoothly, but every time I go to Sequence>render work area, the sequence just starts playing. Same thing if I hit enter on the timeline. What do I need to do to get it to render? thanks!

July 12, 2013 at 4:46 amHi David,
There’s a few ways to go about this if:
1. If you have a red line over your Timeline, pressing the return key will render the red area.
2. If you have a yellow line over your Timeline, you can make a in and out point over the area you want to be rendered, choose Sequence> Render In to Out
3. From the Timeline panel menu select Work Area Bar. Drag the Work Area Bar over the area you want rendered choose Sequence> Render Work Area or Render Effects in Work Area
Best,

July 12, 2013 at 5:06 amthanks a bunch! setting the in and out points worked. For some reason, it still wouldn’t render when I had the work area bar on…but oh well, it worked the other way, so thanks again!

September 18, 2013 at 3:24 pmHi Peter,
What should I do if the choose Sequence> Render Work Area or Render Effects in Work Area does not work at all? So I can’t even get it to start a render of any sort. It worked fine until yesterday then all of a sudden stopped after I did a few tweaks on the timeline? I am using Mac OS X and have about 30 layers with effects Dynamically linked on PP CS6 to After Effects. Newbie to PP & AE normally used FCP 7 in the past

September 19, 2013 at 8:27 pmHi Glo,
Are you sure your Work Area Bar is enabled? You can verify this by going to the Timeline wing menu and making sure Work Area Bar is checked.
Also if it is checked you may want to try Reseting your preferences. Hold down Shift-Option while Premiere is starting. Once you see the splash screen you can let go of the keys.
Hop this help,

September 19, 2013 at 11:05 pmThanks Peter,
I think it was the Work Area Bar but I din’t get your message till after I uninstalled and reinstalled PP and AE and did a lot of experimenting and deduction the finally worked it out accidentally just before receiving your message… I somehow got the area above the timeline to be greyed out then it rendered fine (don’t know why it disappeared before).
At least you’ve explained it now so I know what I did in case I do it again.
Phew. Problem solved. Back to the grind…
