Rendering with PNG slow
Hi there!
I’m trying to render some files from Adobe Premiere (either from Premiere itself or the media encoder). After some testing, I found out Adobe renders really fast in compressed formats like H.264 or uncompressed formats like a BMP sequence. The CPU cores are used at 100% for this.
As soon as I switch to something PNG (either an image sequence or in a QT container_, it becomes really slow (in comparission), and the CPU is only used for about 25%..
I’ve always liked PNG because it’s so versatile. What could be the reason it’s so slow?
Here’s some system info:
HP Elitebook 8570w
Windows 8 pro
i7-3610QM 2,3 Ghz Quadcore
24 GB ram
500 GB SSD (system)
240 GB mSata (data)
Nvidia quadro k2000m -

Thanks, I’ll do some testing with that.
But what I don’t understand.. when I render just an image sequence, Quicktime wouldnt have anything to do with it, would it?Still exporting as a BMP sequence goes much faster than PNG..

Lossless and uncompressed are not the same.
PNG is lossless, but it’s compressed. It uses the DEFLATE compression scheme also found in ZIP files, and this can be slow (especially since the renderer/encoder seems to be synchronous, meaning it doesn’t start the next frame until it’s already finished the last one).
Lossless and uncompressed formats like BMP, TIFF and DPX will all be faster.
