  • Rendering with CPU outputs smaller file than with GPU?

Posted by Andrew Phillips on December 28, 2015 at 6:12 am

    Vegas 13 on a Intel Core i7-4790K at 4.0Gz

I have a small test clip I am rendering with “Sony AVC (Internet 1920×1080-30p template)”, and the first render with CPU only has a slightly lower bitrate than GPU render and file size is 41,285. If I simply change the same template to GPU render, it comes out slightly higher bitrate and 47,908 and as expected renders faster.

Can someone give me the technical on how this would change the output file quality? I thought it would only change the time it took to render and a bit stoopafied over it. Mostly curious and hoping I always remember to set GPU in my templates.

Wow! That’s worthy of a direct posting to SONY. That’s truly an awesome revelation.

Thanks for sharing. I’m going to be doing some comparative renders.

    Some figures from MediaInfo:

    GPU 51 secs Render Time
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 15.4 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 16.0 Mbps

    CPU 56 secs Render Time
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 13.9 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 16.0 Mbps

    And here with BitRate Viewer:

    GPU

    And now CPU

Firstly there appears to be a difference. Secondly, would I notice a difference? But in any event, there IS a difference and in my part of the World, there shouldn’t be.

    Interesting, thanks for sharing.
