Rendering video from after effects has huge file size, around 28GB?
To start and give some information,
I’m rending a video through CS6 and when I render it the file size is huge and the render times are very long (about two or three hours).
Im using AVI as a file container but do not know which codex to use?
Its a simple video with a few solids, simple text animation, camera blur, and a waveform. (Im matching music on the waveform with the the song, thats it) -

AE’s default lossless output module generates an intermediate file that is designed for additional post-production use, not direct playback. These files are generally huge, with very high data rates, and very few computers can play them back in real time without stuttering. Some things like motion blur and depth of field can add considerably to render time.
How long is the video? What are your system specs? Are you using multiprocessing? What are your memory & multiprocessing settings?

What is your end goal/platform for your video, as that’ll determine what format/codec you should use.
If it’s just to show your friends/clients or upload to youtube. I’d just use H264 and MOV or MP4.

Yeah I just plan on posting it on YouTube in HD (720), but the song has to be HD also. Thanks for the help btw guys!

Ahh that makes sense, I only have 4gigs of ram and I’m trying to use a wide camera lens blur as an intro effect.

Are you rendering with add render queqe? I think you need to use Adobe Media Encoder and render with H264 Codec as mp4.
When i render my files directly in AE with add render queqe option as AVI my files being 2 GB (10 sec video and no edit.)

Possibly. I’m on a mac (which may have different built in codecs?). But I usually export in Format: Quicktime. Codec: H264. I get nice small file sizes with great quality.
