Rendering unusual sized video for broadcast specs
I’ve made a few threads about this but want to explain my main issue with finishing a video for a client and see if there’s any way around recutting the commercial using 24 hours or so of footage they have from the original shoots. I’m pretty sure that’s my option, but maybe someone has an idea.
-A client of mine gave me digital copies of videos that another company made for them two years ago. It’s four videos, all of them commercials. They’re mpeg2, 720×512, PAR of .9481. It’s an unusual size, but my initial thought was, “Well, that’s what they want,” not realizing this would be for broadcast. Because of the video’s unusual size, there’s a horizontal bar of black over the top of the video. I can cover that up with some layers of color, but the real problem is bottom of the video has a kind of white bar with text on how to contact the company, which is not broadcast safe in the current resolution.
-The finished video has to be mpeg2 at the current resolution, or, mov (Pro Res, to be exact), at 720×486. Rendering to this resolution makes for vertical letterboxing. I can crop the video to make it fit, but then I’m losing resolution as well as making the text at the bottom go out of the safe area.
I’m thinking I’ll just have to go through all their footage and recreate the commercial as closely as possible, but it seems like I’m so close-there must be a way of doing this. The text at the bottom of the video not being broadcast safe is what is so strange. The video is at the correct resolution for mpeg2, so how can I make that bottom text broadcast safe? I may try moving it up on the screen, which will block even more of the action.
Finally, the video has to be in 4:2:2. Any programs that will make mpeg2 video?
