  • Rendering to Windows media HELP?

Posted by Brian Dugan on January 23, 2007 at 4:10 pm

I have edited a 1 hour project (in FCX) that I need to give to a client (200 copies will be made) so they can
play it on various Windows laptops using Windows Media Player at NTSC size utilizing a projector.

I am relatively new to FCX (have used Premier in the past)

What is the best way to go about this? Best Quality I can acheive of course!
EXPORT > USING QUICKTIME CONVERSION > settings?

I was figuring on creating a master data DVD.

    Thanks

They’d have better quality if they choose QuickTime, and H.264… But to make Windows media, you need Flip4Mac or other software that can support the transfer. Can’t do it directly from FCP or FCE.

    Jerry,
Thanks. (I’d use quicktime but all thier laptops are windows and they won’t use QT player!)

I do have Flip4Mac installed. But don’t know what steps to take.
    If I go to
    EXPORT
    USING QUICKTIME CONVERSION
my pull down gives me the Windows Media format choice and then in the options
    if I choose:
    Video-WMV Standard-One Pass variable Rate-Quality 100-Size 720×480-Rate 30
    Audio-WMA Satndard-One Pass variable-44 Stereo

it renders the video fine but no audio
and it stops after rendering only 29 seconds. I have 400 gigs available.

It appears you only have the free trial version installed. You need to buy F4M to get more than 30 seconds.

QT for Windows is a free download guy… they can use it for free. QT 7 on a PC will play H.264 files…

[Jerry Hofmann] “QT for Windows is a free download guy… they can use it for free. QT 7 on a PC will play H.264 files…”

Many corporate IT will not allow Quicktime on their equipment, free or not, it’s just an unfortunate fact.
Company I used to work for forbade it citing “instability” and “security” concerns. And, it came from Apple, so it must be evil. 🙂
