    Hi,
I’ve run into an odd issue with Metasan. We just installed a metasan SAN for our graphics dept. We’ve tested it out, running multiple streams of SDI Video in RT etc. everything seems great. I have a project in C4D, with nothing other than a background, and the background texture is video located on the SAN. When I try to open the project it takes about 20 seconds to load trying to load the texture. When I render, It sits on preparing for about 7 sec’s, then takes about 4 sec’s to write each frame. When I put the texture file (the C4D file is fine on the SAN) back on my SCSI attached Media drive, it zips like always. The project opens quick, and the preparing lasts about 1 sec, and then the render is very quick per frame. I’ve tried adding the san to the first spot in my texture directory, but nothing helps? Has anyone run into this, and anyone have any suggestions.

    Hi Mike,

What resolution, file format, and codec is your texture file? Have you tried with another format?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
It’s Quicktime animation codec. 720 x 486, 24fps. I haven’t tried any other, this is the most common type used for us.

Could you try with say DPX images to see if it behaves the same?

    This will help investigating.

    Cheers,

    Hi Micheal,

What version of Cinema 4D are you using?

We use MetaSan and had a similar problem with slowdowns whn we were using 10.0 but we stopped getting the issue when we moved to 10.111 and now with 10.5.

I may run some tests here in the next few days so we can compare notes… most of the scenes we’ve been working on lately are not texture heavy, so I’ll double-check to make sure.

    Hi,
We are using 10.5. We’ve noticed a lag in reading of files in various apps. Even just opening an AE file there was a noticeable lag. I think there is probably a setting somewhere we’ll have to find. It’s definitely a read problem.
