  • Rendering time?

I am very new to using FCP. I am only using it to create an HD 1080i video project for public projection. I am a still photographer, and I need to create this onscreen show made up from my images. The show is made up of still images from photoshop and morphed clips made in Morph Age, saved as a Quick Time movie(1080i/60). These are all set with the in/out points and dragged into the time line. Then the horrendous task of rendering begins. A 30 second segment can take 2 hours! I am using a Mac Pro, duel processor with plenty of RAM, but the rendering is incredibly long. It is almost fearful to start a render on a 3 minute clip, as that can approach 10-12 hours! Is there any way to speed this up? I need to end up with HD that I can burn to Blue Ray, so it seems logical that I build in HD in the first place. Do I just have to eat this rendering time? And if I even touch a rendered clip and move it even 1 frame, I have to render the entire clip again. Why cannot rendered clips be dragged in the time line without having to render it again?

You need to make sure your sequence settings are set to the same settings as the footage you are importing. You can only do this by creating a new project and changing the sequence settings to that of your source clips. If your timeline or sequence settings have been set to DV settings, when you drag your HD footage to that timeline, Final Cut will have to render or conform the footage to the settings of the timeline. However if your sequence settings are already the same as your footage, final cut will not have to render.
